Is marriage overrated?

im beginning to wonder whether marriage is actually overrated. Better to have companions and partners than be married. Think so?

I feel it is over rated. People are better happy in Live in or in relationship. Most marriages gets sour these days very soon and yes divorce rate is higher than before. No doubt there are happily married couples too but still most cases nowadays are going into lose connection. I feel getting compatibility (Emotional plus Physical) and maintaining the balance of the two keeps the relation (Any) intact. What you feel @SnapDragon44 , @Administrator.

Admin uncle was recently reading something about it.. there is still no definite response.. One wing says that the reason why there are so many divorces is because we are simply not tuned to live with one person only..

Another wing claims that the reason why we feel jealousy when our partner mingles with others is because we are tuned to attach ourselves with one person only

This has always been fluctuating across time spans and cultures as well..

@HunterUncle @Administrator but then there are very real fears of being alone right? The good thing about not being married and just dating someone is the fear of loosing each other and hence they make more efforts to stay together. That makes more sense somehow. What do you say?

@SnapDragon44 - I feel that if the couple is mature and practical, they wont keep expectation high and would love to decorate each moment together.

If we fear loosing someone then by default we are up for marriage and being monogamous right?

Those who are not are by default polygamists. They leave one, they find another. Through each one we polish ourselves and realize our true-self.

The point is that there is no such thing as one alternative being the topmost one. Just follow your tendencies with no guilt about right over wrong

Eh. I think cheating and divorce rates say more about marriage not being for everyone and people getting married for the wrong reason in the first place. We're all a little bit different from one another, and for some of us, the thought of devoting our entire life to another human being may just not be in the cards.

In other words, it is not overrated for some people (myself included), but for others it is a waste of time and effort that is better spent pursuing a career or learning about underwater basket weaving.
