Meri taraf mudke dekhti bhi nahi hai yaar,
he said to me, looking at the buildings as far as the eyes could see.
“Tera hi dimaag karab hai, itne saal ho gaye, kyon apna time barbaad kar raha hai uspe?!” I asked with an annoyed and outraged look on my face.
This was not the first time I had asked this question.
Here was this guy friend of mine, completely hooked to this woman who didn’t really give a damn about his very existence.
He knew everything about her just by the power of his observation. Her likes, dislikes, her friends, habits etc in a very non stalkish way.
I don’t know what the hell he liked about this woman, but who am I to judge a man in love.
“Tum baat to karne ki koshish karo, kya hoga? Mana karegi na, this is the worse that could happen? Himmat juta le bhai, baat karle usse ek baari,”
I said. “If she finds out about my feelings whatever friendship we do have left will be finished. I can’t afford that,” he responded with a frown.
Kya kare phir? Din bhar baith kar aasu bahayen?
I protested.“Dude, you are educated, you’re accomplished, you travel all over the f*****g world, but you can’t walk up to a woman and express your feelings?
It’s been a while man! Grow a spine yaar take rejection like a mature man if that is what you are expecting.
Bhai, dekh, regret reh gaya na, raaton ko so nahi payega. Soch le.”
I finally announced my long suppressed want to give it straight to his face. I lamented further, “Dekh, as woman I’m telling you, bandiyan mana kar deti hai aadmiyon ko date karne se, par itni izzat zaroor unki karti hai ki saale ne muh dikha ke poocha to sahi, baat to ki!
It sounds really dumb thing to you and trivial but women remember these things.”
He sipped his rum, looked at me and smiled. Then he turned and looked at the buildings again. The sun was about to set.
“He is my best friend. I can’t do this him.”
