See Uncle, it is happening again. First it was Mumbai. Just few weeks ago it was Ranchi. And now it is Agra. This is India. Things will never change here. What is StayUncle going do about it?
This is one of the reactions we’ve received from a fan of ours after reading news about a police raid that happened in a hotel in Agra where 9 couples were caught off guard exposed and taken to the local police station.
This is truly an unfortunate event for a country that prides itself sending rockets on the moon. Yes, we do have something to say on this.
First, the way in which this is informed is truly childish and unbefitting a professional journalism.
The coverage in almost every media covering this event is full of superficial, half baked and nebulous statements. Here are few examples:
- Police has registered a case (but what type of case? What exactly is the transgression here?)
- The police then broke open the gate room, couples met in catastrophic condition. Catastrophic condition? Not sure whether to laugh my ass out or cry myself out as I read this line.
Second, it is reported that the guests were underage.
This is unfortunate and a constant reminder to our potential guests. We will not serve couples below the legal consenting age. It is for your own safety. We don’t crave money that much as to put a couple in jeopardy and shame just because of few hundred rupees extra. Never.
And how do you prove that you are consenting adults?
By demonstrating a valid ID proof for both of the partners. Your ID proof gets checked, verified and registered in the guest book.
This is a standard practice not only in India but in every other country in the world. Unfortunately as reported, the couples caught off guard did not have a valid ID proof and neither their guest details were mentioned in the hotel’s guest book (if a place in which the owners flee as soon as they spot the sight of police can be called a hotel)
Should we be afraid using your service, Uncle?
No you shouldn’t. Your are completely safe and secure.
For as long as we adhere to the basic law there is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. India is changing and a clear legal framework is a good part of it. Better times are here.
No policeman will ever disturb an adult couple whose guest details have been diligently registered into the guest book as the best practice implies. You are in completely safe and welcoming environment in every StayUncle hotel and the law is on your side. Our team of lawyers has confirmed this.
Needless to say, we sympathize with the unfortunate couples who had to undergo such trauma.
Our advice to all Indian couples is to be careful about choosing their private place, further more because budget type of hotels and lodges are more exposed on risk due to improper management and substandard practices.

[…] As we said before, these raids usually happen under the pretext of sex rackets in budget shady hotels which do not register the guests in the hotels’ guest book nor bother to check and verify a valid government ID proof (read this) […]
